Half a year later

... and no updates. So how far have I come?

What can I say. I knew it was hard but I figured that if I put in some effort it wouldn't be impossible. Watching the "10 ways to cut out plastic" videos etc they all seemed very manageable. Especially since being norwegian a lot of what they speak of is an ingrained part of our society. Bringing food from home, or "matpakke", bringing a keepcup and a bottle of water and recycling are all things I grew up with.

But you instantly become more aware of the amount of ridiculous plastic that is everywhere when you try to cut it out. An example being that I wanted to buy a simple bar of soap to use in the bathroom and I actually couldn't find one in the store that wasn't wrapped in a hundred layer of plastic. I ended up settling on a package that was a mix of cardboard and plastic, but with several bars of soap so I wouldn't have to buy several packages in a hurry.

We're also in the process of moving and the amount of stuff I own is just... overwhelming. I've gone through all my stuff at several occation and donating or giving away bags and bags of stuff, and yet so much remain. Granted, most of them are books. Books are my one true passion and even when I only keep books I really love or books I need for my university work I am left with over three bookcases full of them. I've briefly considered getting a Kindle or something similar but... books are just such a huge part of how I identify myself. I am taking a master in philology, the very science of how books relate to each other and how our manuscript culture came to be.

But no matter how much I love my books I certainly wish they weren't so heavy. Plastic is sadly still very much a part of my life, even half a year after I decided on this journey. I was just at the local vegetable and drygoods store and bought a package of spinach noodles in a plastic wrapping for example. I imagine noodles can't be that hard to make. I should look up some recipes.

I found two great chinese wheatnoodles without egg recipes right of the bat!

The first one is really easy and basic, the other one goes a bit more in depth on how to fold and cut the noodles. I'm definitely going to try this next week as I have a short vacation coming up :D
